Bernard T. Steiber, 84, of Lansing died Wednesday October 21, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a long illness. Services were held Saturday, October 24 at the United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Lansing.

Bernard was born January 2, 1925 in Lansing to Fred and Selma (Dee) Steiber. He graduated from Waterville High School. He married Betty Gramlich June 8, 1946 in Lansing and farmed most of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; four children, Monte (Ann) Steiber of Prairie du Chien, WI, Neal (Debbie) Steiber of Lansing, Nancy (Bruce) Novak of Mesquite, TX, and Robin (Robert) Hyde of Plymouth, MN; seven grandchildren, Chad (Rachael), Ross, Marc (Tabitha), Adam and Krisalyn Steiber, and Ryan and Rachel Novak; great-grandchildren, Colin, Nicole, Megan, Tyler, and Lauren Steiber; and two sisters, Muriel Cooper of Waukon and Edith Paugh of Mesa, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Cyril Steiber, Bernice Reinhardt, Vera Prouty, Frederick Steiber, Nelvin Steiber, Myrtle Mathis, and Viette Englehorn.

The same obituary was published in the Prairie du Chien, Wisc. newspaper, COURIER PRESS, contained one item that the Standard obit did not:
"Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements ."
