Hugh Coyle
Lycurgus, Mar. 5,1887
one by one the old citizens of Lycurgus are passing away to their everlasting home. The last one called from our midst was Mr. Hugh Coyle, who died on last evening, at the age of eighty-six years. He was a native of county Donegal, Ireland. In the year 1831 he sailed to America in the ship Lady Sherbrook, which was wrecked near the coast of Nova Scotia in the night. He being a good swimmer, swam to a rock and was picked up next morning by some fisherman. He worked for four years and a half near Philadelphia and thought he would return to his native isle. In 1837 he again sailed for America, and after landing, married one of his ship-mates, Catharine Dunlavy, whom he outlived ten years. They remained in Pennsylvania until the year '62 when they moved to Allamakee where he has since resided...He leaves five sons and two daughters to mourn his loss.
