Death of Mr John Farrell...
Another of Lansings oldest settlers has gone to his final rest. John Farrell, well known to every one in this portion of Iowa, died at his home in this city, Thursday night Dec.27, at 9 o'clock. Mr Farrell was a native of Ireland. He was born in 1818, and came to America in 1844. He came to Lansing in 1855 and resided here continously until the time of his death. He was in the hotel business, having a fine property on Main street...No one ever met Mr Farrell without being favorably impressed with his generous, genial manners, and none knew him who were not his friends. He was an earnest and active democrat. His large acquaintance and the high esteem in which he was held by his countrymen made him a power in the democratic party, to which he was ever faithful. Last election he was taken to the polls almost totally blind and for the last time registered his faithful allegiance to his political priciples...
