Lorraine A. Britain, 92, of Spring Grove, MN, formerly of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 22nd, at 1:30 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Garry Birth officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call for one hour before the service on Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Lorraine Ann Britain was born on January 13, 1917 near Dorchester, IA in Waterloo Township of Allamakee County. She grew up in the Dorchester area and attended the local area schools. On November 17, 1936 she married Otis Glen Britain in Waukon, IA. They farmed together at several places in northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota, mostly near Spring Grove, until 1976 when Otis was killed in a tractor accident. Lorraine then moved to Waukon where she worked for 7 years in the laundry department of Veterans Memorial Hospital and did housekeeping work for several area families. She has been a resident of Tweeten Health Care Center in Spring Grove since 2006.
Lorraine was a dedicated member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Waukon. In recent years she has enjoyed doing crochet and knitting work. She liked visiting and keeping up with her church friends and family members.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Daniel (Joyce) Britain of Charles City, IA and Norval (Janet) Britain of Spring Grove, MN; 7 grandchildren, Tammy (Tod) Wulff, Carmen (Alan) Wolf, and Lisa (Mike) Enabnet, all of Charles City, Ron Britain of Winona, MN, Lori Johnson and Jim (Jill) Britain, both of Spring Grove, and Jenny Rasmussen of Harmony, MN; 12 great-grandchildren, Jason, Britany, Dylan, Matthew, Nicolette, Kylan, Samantha, Amanda, Michael, Riley, Dylan, and Jenna; and a brother, Bill (Mabel) Sires of Spring Grove. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Otis; a daughter, Rebecca Nuhring; a granddaughter, Susan Britain; 4 sisters, Lois Rosendahl, Alpha Rosendahl, Gladys Sires, and Roberta Kannenberg; and 2 brothers, Robert and Calvin Sires.
Casketbearers are Ron and Jim Britain, Bill Sires Jr., Tod Wulff, Alan Wolf, and Mike Enabnet.
