Funeral services for Gerhard Koopman, 82, were held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1984 at 11 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. The Reverend Reuben Tjaden officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Gerhard Henry Koopman, son of John Henry and Johanna (Deters) Koopman, was born July 8, 1902 in Lehe, Germany. He passed away Oct. 27, 1984 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

He was baptized in Germany as an infant. At the age of four he came to the United States with his family and they settled on a farm in Post Township. He was confirmed April 1, 1917 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

Gerhard attended the Bailey School in Grand Meadow Township. December 18, 1930 he was married to Ellen Mae Krambeer at West Union. To this union eight children were born. They farmed near Luana, then moved to Sheffield and Clear Lake, returning to this area in 1944. They farmed in Grand Meadow Township until 1968 when they retired and moved to Postville.

After moving to Postville, Koopman had been a driver for the Northeast Iowa Community Action Agency for their meal site program. He had also been a director for the Pixler School in Grand Meadow Township while living on the farm. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ellen, a son, Dean, two brothers, Alfred and Richard and two grandchildren in infancy.

Surviving are three sons, Louis of Kingston, WI, James of Minneapolis, Arvin of Dalton, WI; four daughters, Lois (Mrs. John Wahls) of Elkader, Geraldine (Mrs. Dale Schroeder) of Postville, Dixie (Mrs. John Koch) of Orange Park, FL and Cora Hansen of Winona, MN; 24 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Adolph of Lakeland, FL, Harold of Monona and Harlan of Cedar Rapids, and 3 sisters, Frieda (Mrs. Howard Henkes) of Eastman, WI, Ella Kurth of Monona and Irma (Mrs. Paul Hess) of Milwaukee, WI.
