Violet V. Schmieden, 94, of Waukon died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 21 at 11 a.m. at East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, with Vicar Josh Skogen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 20 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Violet Verna Schmieden was born July 1, 1915 in Taylor, WI, the daughter of Alfred and Cora (Rekward) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, where she remained a life-long member. Violet attended rural elementary schools in the Ludlow and Volney areas as well as Waterville High School.
January 4, 1933 she married Victor H. Schmieden at the East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church. They farmed together in rural Waterville for many years. Violet helped with the milking, tending to the calves and chickens, and did most of the yard and garden chores. She enjoyed the rural life and stayed in her home as long as possible.
Violet was an active church member and held various offices in Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Lutheran Brotherhood. She enjoyed doing embroidery, was an avid reader, and liked to play cards and visit with her friends.Survivors include her son, Wayne (Lil) Schmieden of Waterville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carrie Wurtzel.
