Funeral services for Louis O. Koevenig were held Tuesday, April 29, 1986 in the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. The Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiated. The organist was Jan Schultz. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Louis O. Koevenig, son of Joseph A and Christine (Blumhagen) Koevenig, was born December 7, 1898 at Postville. He died April 25, 1986 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

He attended the Postville School, graduating with the class of 1915. He enlisted in the Army and attended S.A.T.C. at Ames until the end of WWI.

After his return to Postville he assisted his mother in the restaurant and confectionary store, then continued in the business until 1929. He later owned and operated a Hardware and Variety Store until retiring in 1964.

On July 19, 1926 he was married to Mildred Harrington. They had a son, James Louis.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, who died January 20, 1976 and a brother, Adolf.

Surviving is his son, James of Oviedo, FL, two grandchildren, Kimberly and Kurt Koevenig.

He was a member of the American Legion, a 50-year member and Past Master of the Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204 and a member of the Community Presbyterian Church.

Casket bearers were Clarence Storla, Charles Erding, Upton Peck, Robert Gruhn, Polk Burleson and A. Burr Cook.

Honorary casket bearers were Ed Frese, Otto Miene, Helmuth Schutte, Leighton Schlak and Lorenz Kuhse.
