Funeral services for Leonard B. Kirkestue of Postville, were held Monday, Nov. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Norris C. Swenson and the Rev. David R. Nelson officiated.
Leonard B. Kirkestue, son of Ole and Nelseina (Kloster) Kirkestue, was born March 30, 1895 in Winneshiek County and died November 24, 1978 at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Knoxville at the age of 83 years.
United in marriage to Selma Beisker February 15, 1927, he and his wife farmed north of Postville. To their union one son, Edwin, was born. They retired from farming in 1971 and moved to Postville.
Baptized and confirmed at the Stavanger Lutheran Church, Ossian, he became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville in 1943.
He was a veteran of World War I, and was a member of the Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post #518, Postville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn, and two sisters, Ingeborg and Mabel.
In addition to his wife, Selma of Postville, he is survived by his son, Edwin, Postville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Odena O'Harren of California and Bertha Anderson, Elgin, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were members of Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post 3 518.
Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
