Services Held For Roy D. Knight

Military services were held Sunday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, for Roy Demilt Knight, who died at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, Thursday, October 7. Death was attributed to a heart attack. The Rev. Dick Harberts officiated.

Born February 20, 1917 in Lebanon, Colorado, Roy was the son of Charles and Jenny (Kinney) Knight. He received his elementary education and graduated from Fowler high school in Colorado and attended Western Colorado State College at Gunnison, Colorado.

He moved to Elgin, Iowa, in 1938 where he started work for the Farmers Co-op. He was inducted into the Army in July, 1941 and served in the 3rd Division of the 41st Field Artillery Battalion through the North African and European campaign in World War II. Ray was honorably discharged as Master Sergeant on September 16, 1945.

June 24, 1942, he was married to Ruth Elaine Zurbriggen in Salinas, California and they became parents of four children.

He was baptized and became a member of the Community Presbyterian Church on April 2, 1950. He taught Sunday School, served as a trustee, deacon and elder. He joined the American Legion in 1945 and served as commander of the Arthur F. Brandt Post No. 518, Allamakee County and the 4th District in 1966. He was a faithful worker for Alcoholics Anonymous, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, served on the Boy Scout board, was an honorary member of the FFA and past president of the Postville Commercial Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister Florence.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Elaine and his four children, Renee of New Orleans, Louisiana, Jack of Luana, Noel of Postville and Mrs. Paul (Janice) Coffeen of Boseman, Montana; also two brothers, Vernon and Gene, both of Pueblo, Colorado and a sister Myrtle Wilson of Longmont, Colorado. There are also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
