James Marley, 18, Dies at Lafayette Home Mar. 13
A gloom of sadness was cast over this community when news was announced that the hand of death had claimed James Marley, Wednesday morning, March 13, at 8:30 o’clock. Although he had been very ill for about a month the end came unexpectedly, but he was not unprepared. His life had been a preparation and an inspiration to all, as he bore his sufferings with a patience and resignation which seemed far beyond his tender years. Ten years ago he was stricken with heart trouble and his parents spared neither time nor money to effect a cure, but all to little or no purpose.
James was a remarkably bright boy and although unable to attend school, he kept up in his studies by applying himself to his books at home. Few there are indeed who had as many friends as James. His kind, lovable disposition endeared him to his family, relatives and friends. Words of consolation can do but little to ease the sorrow in that home, where because of his affliction, he was doubly dear. That good mother and father, his brothers and sister, each and every one did their part to make life bright for him. They spared no pains, left nothing undone, which might in any way add to his comfort.
James was born January 14, 1917, and at the time of his death was 18 years, 2 months and 6 days of age. His twin brother, John, died when an infant. Those who are left to mourn his loss are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marley, two brothers, Joe and Thomas, and one sister, Mary, besides numerous other relatives and friends.
Owing to the bad condition of the roads, the funeral was held at Wexford Thursday morning. Rev. Father O’Sullivan singing the Requiem Mass and interment in the adjoining cemetery. The pall bearers were Mike Mooney, Clem Hawes, Joe and Rob’t Whalen, Pete Flood and Stephen O’Neill.
May his soul rest in peace.
