John H. Byrne died in September, 1935. Obituary from the Allamakee Journal newspaper reads:

John H. Byrne, Former Wexford Resident, at Rest

The subject of this sketch was born at Village Creek, Lafayette township, April 5, 1865, the second son of the late Philip Byrne and Mary Smith. He lived almost his entire life on the farm near Village Creek, serving as Clerk of Lafayette township for several years until failing health compelled him to retire in 1925, when the family removed to Lansing, which has since been their home, and where his wife and youngest daughter still reside.

He was married to Frances Whalen May 5th, 1896, at Immaculate Conception church, Lansing, Father Haxmeier officiating. To this union were born six children, Martha, Agnes (Mrs. John Ormsby) and Bernard, all of LaCrosse, Wis., Terrance of Waukesha, Wis., and Margaret at home. One child died in infancy.

Deceased belonged to Lansing Camp No. 2142, M. W. A., and was a lifelong member of the Catholic church, belonging to the Wexford parish prior to his removal to Lansing.

He died September 16th, 1935, and leaves to mourn his passing his wife, five children, and two sisters, Mrs. John Hand, of Clear Lake, S. D., and Mrs. W. H. Guider, of Lansing. His death was caused by pneumonia.

The funeral will be Thursday morning, Sept. 19, at 9 o’clock from Immaculate Conception church, Msgr. Haxmeier officiating, and his body will be laid to rest in Gethsemane cemetery.
