LuNida M. Sebastian
LuNida M. Sebastian, 92, Postville, Iowa, died Friday, September 25, 2009, at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa, following a brief illness. LuNida was born on October 5, 1916, rural Luana, Iowa, to Edward and Irene (Brandtman) Doerring. She attended Eno Country School through the eighth grade.
LuNida was united in marriage to Victor Sebastian on May 26, 1937, at her parent's home in Clayton County. Three sons were born to this union, Burdette, Merlin and Milo. LuNida and Victor worked side by side on their farm. They farmed for fifty years on the same farm in Post Township, northeast of Postville in Allamakee County. They retired to Postville in 1988. Victor passed away on December 27, 1999.
She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers inside and out. LuNida was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Irene Doerring; her husband, Victor and two brothers, Charles and Eugene Doerring.
Survivors include three sons, Burdette (Elsie) Sebastian of Postville, Merlin (Lynne) Sebastian of Geneseo, IL and Milo (Linda) Sebastian of Postville; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Robert (Doris) Doerring of Lancaster, WI; sister-in-law, Shirley Monroe of Postville and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Gary Catterson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Postville, Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
