E.F. Sullivan Passes Tuesday
Son of Pioneer Settlers Dies at Harpers Ferry at Age of 89 Years

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning for Eugene Francis Sullivan who passed away at his home in Harpers Ferry Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. He had been in failing health for some time and had been sick since June. Death was caused from infirmities of age. Mr. Sullivan was 89 years of age. He was born July 24, 1852 on a farm near Harpers Ferry, the son of Thomas and Bridget Agnes Sullivan the first pioneer settlers in that territory. The Sullivans came to the United States in 1849 from Ireland. Eugene Sullivan was united in marriage to Mary Ann Dignan at the Paint Rock Church, Oct 2, 1877. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary together. Mrs. Sullivan preceded her husband in death Aug. 15, 1938. Surviving Mr. Sullivan are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Agnes Conley of Dubuque, Thomas of Waterloo, Michael, and Henry of Harpers Ferry and Joseph and George on the farm. A daughter and two sons, John and William, preceded their father in death. Two sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Mary Duffy of St. James hospital, St. James, Minn., and Mrs. Margaret Bolger of Deadwood, S. Dak. For the past 23 years, Mr. Sullivan has made his home in Harpers Ferry with two sons, Michael and Henry. Funeral services will be held from St. Ann's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry with the Rev. J.J. Costelloe singing the requiem mass.
