Charles Phillip Nierling

Charles "Chuck" Phillip Nierling, 63, of Lebanon, VA, formerly of Waukon, died Mon., Nov. 12, 2001, at Russell Co. Medical Center in Lebanon, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sat., Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with the Reverend Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Charles "Chuck" Phillip Nierling was born July 19, 1938, in rural Dorchester. His parents were Anton Peter and Lenora May (Spores) Nierling. He lived in several places when he was young and attended rural schools in Dorchester and Sumner. After school, he took several area jobs before leaving Northeast Iowa. He worked as a lineman for North Central Power Company and several cable TV companies, living in a number of different places, but spending 11 years in South Carolina and the past two years in Virginia.

On March 31, 1979, Charles married Margie "Gail" Parker in Roswell, NM. He had previously been married to Joanne Primus and Mary Jo Sautter.

Chuck loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as playing golf. He was also a NASCAR fan.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Clinton; a daughter, Wanda; a grandson, Kyle Sautter; three brothers, George, David, and Robert Nierling; and a sister, Mary Rosendahl.

Survivors include his wife, Gail, of Lebanon, VA; two daughters, Misty Lynn Nierling of Lebanon, VA, and Rhonda Peck of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Quinn (Tammy) Nierling of Alta; two step-daughters, Angie (Jim) Hanson and Sandy (Virgil) Hatfield; three step-sons, Jack (Linda) Sautter, Terry (Nora) Sautter, and Larry (Desi) Sautter; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Nierling of Charles City; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Lamb, Betty Snyder, and Letha (Lee) Folsom, all of Waukon; three brothers, Thomas (Judy) Nierling of Greeley, CO, and Lyle (Cherie) Nierling and Kenneth Nierling, both of Waukon; and very special friends, Ray and Crissy Ball and family of Cedar Bluff, VA.

Honorary casketbearers were Jimmy "Icee" Williams, Billy Joe Brown, Daryl "Bugle Boy" Houser, Richard Fillinger, Greg, Tony, and Bruce Rosendahl, Rick Lamb, Jeff and Terry Snyder, and Shayne, Eric, and Matt Nierling. Casketbearers were Ray Ball, David Evans, Raymond Snyder, Aaron Folsom, Alfred "Chip" Lamb, and Mike Nierling.
