Charlotte Marie Newman

Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Newman were held Thursday, May 22, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Gary Catterson officiated. Special music was provided by Ronald Meyer, soloist and Beverly Bacon, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Charlotte Marie Newman, the daughter of Harold Robert and Mary Alvina (Bray) Flack, was born January 1, 1925 at Lansing, Iowa. She died Tuesday, May 20, 1997 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. She had reached the age of 72 years, four months and 19 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in Volney, Iowa and was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church. She attended schools in Volney, Myron and Postville.

Charlotte lived in Chicago for many years. After returning to Postville, she had been employed as a housekeeper at the Pines Motel and as a cook at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. On her retirement in 1988, she moved to Evansdale, Iowa. Charlotte enjoyed her grandchildren, collecting elephants and thimbles, cross stitching and embroidering, movies and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Vivian Jones and a brother, Leslie Flack.

Surviving are her two daughters, Rosalind and her husband, Dave Palas, of Postville; Cindy and her husband, Jerry Wagner, of Evansdale; two sons: Darrel Newman and his wife, Joleen, of Waterloo and William "Rusty", of Evansdale.

Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Preston Waters, Tammy (Keith) Loomis, Kevin Palas, Darnell Newman, Darran Newman, Jenna Newman, Sarah Richmond, Cory Helgerson, Amanda Wagner, Justin Wagner, two great grandchildren and two sisters: Betty Lundt of Decorah and Joyce and her husband, Delbert Reincke, of Evansdale.

Casket bearers were Preston Waters, Cory Helgerson, Darnell Newman, Kevin Palas, Justin Wagner and Darran Newman.
