Georgia Ludeking, age 63, of Decorah, died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, Decorah, of complications from Amyolotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29 at 11 a.m., at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor Judy Scheer officiating.

Karen Holthaus is organist and hymn selections include "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "How Great Thou Art," "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "Amazing Grace."

Casketbearers are LeRoy Wernet, Keri Whalen, Dean Patterson, Scott Ludeking, Jacob Ludeking and Jeff Reinhart.

Honorary Casketbearers are "Georgia’s Birthday Bunch."

Interment is in Salem Cemetery, rural Waukon. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, is handling arrangements.

Georgia Arlene (Wernet) Ludeking was born June 17, 1940 at home in Burr Oak Township, rural Winneshiek County, the daughter of George LeRoy and Isedora Alida "Lydia" (Qualley) Wernet.

She attended McCabe and Cold Water country schools near Burr Oak. She graduated from Canton High School in 1958.

She was a waitress at the Green Parrot; secretary for the Engineering Dept. of Interstate Power Co; custodian for Super 8; security guard for Pinkerton and Lanter Companies; and daytime supervisor at the Oneota Coffee Shop at Luther College for 13 years.

She was united in marriage to Ronald R. Ludeking on Nov. 22, 1959 at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Georgia and Ron Ludeking farmed southeast of Decorah.

In June of 2001, Georgia Ludeking was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, where she was an active member, teaching Sunday and Bible school; past president and treasurer of the Salem’s Women’s Group; Farm Bureau Women’s chairperson; Winn. Co. Hospital Auxiliary Board; Red Cross Bloodmobile coordinator; 4-H leader; and Salem’s Cemetery and Memorial Committee chairman.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald R. Ludeking, Decorah; three daughters: Julia Hageman and husband Brian, Decorah; Kathryn Jankowski and husband Kevin, Ames and Tammy Sue Jacobe and husband Raleigh, Fontana, Calif.; one son: Kelly R. Ludeking and wife Diane, Decorah; six grandchildren; two brothers: Floyd Wernet, Preston, Minn., and Earl Wernet and wife Angie, Brownsville, Minn.; one sister: Florence Patterson, Burr Oak; one brother-in-law: Joe Whalen, Harmony, Minn.; her father-in-law: Clarence "Kelly" Ludeking, Decorah; one sister-in-law: Joan Reinhart and husband Bob, Pocahontas; two brothers-in-law: Dervin Ludeking and wife Lou, Decorah and Arnie Ludeking and wife Sally, Ridgeway.

Georgia Ludeking was preceded in death by her father: George in 1982; mother, Lydia in 1989; one sister: Doris Whalen; one brother-in-law: Arland Patterson; a nephew and her mother-in-law: Martha Ludeking in 1982.
