David Leigh Decker

David Leigh Decker, age 78, formerly of Waukon, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Barry County Care Center, Cassville, MO. His body has been cremated under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, MO. A private family burial will be held in Waukon at a later date.

He was born in Waukon September 23, 1930 to William Carl and Mabel Edith (Davis) Decker. He was united in marriage July 23, 1952 at Annapolis, MD to Dorothy Mae Minch, who preceded him in death July 26, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one son, Donald L. Decker of Cassville, MO; and one daughter, Dianne M. Manley and her husband, Steve, of Cedar Rapids.

David grew up and received his education in Waukon. He was a 1948 graduate of Waukon High School. Following high school, he entered the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War at the navel academy in Annapolis, MD as an ET3. David continued his education following his honorable discharge from the service at Iowa State University in Ames. He graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

David worked in Cedar Rapids for Rockwell Collins Radio as an electrical engineer. He held two patents and worked on the Gemini Space Program. In 1976, David and Dorothy moved to Exeter, MO from Cedar Rapids to make their home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Exeter.
