Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 24 for Lawrence E. Ricker, 89, who died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1994 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.
The Rev. Richard Eick conducted the 11 a.m. services at Zion United Church of Christ. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lawrence was born Nov. 27, 1904 in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, to John and Lydia (Pieper) Ricker. When he was two, his mother died and he was raised by the August Stock family. He attended rural "Elk School" and graduated from Waukon High School in 1922.
Aug. 30, 1928 Lawrence married Kathryn Wiedenmann at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed from 1922-1937, managed the feed business for P.F. Dravis from 1937-1951. From 1951 he owned and operated a feed and grocery store in Rossville and was Allamakee County auditor from 1955-1975, during which time he oversaw the switch to using voting machines for all the elections in the county.
Lawrence was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he held various offices.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Clayton and his wife Audrey of Strawberry, AZ, two daughters Barbara and her husband Arne Grangaard of Prescott, AZ and Marilyn Clark of Waukon, a brother Arthur Ricker of Strawberry Point; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Paul, sister Helen, and a son-in-law, Curtis Clark.
Casket bearers were Dennis and Patti Ricker, Doug and Kathy Clark, Joel and Sue Clark, Tom Prather and Kris Grangaard, Don and Thea Theis, and Steve and Shelley Gearhart.
