Edna Marie Flage

Edna M. Flage, 79, of Waukon, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Friday, march 8 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville with Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Edna Marie McCracken Miller Flage was born on August 24, 1922 near Rossville, IA, the daughter of Milton and Fannie (McShane) McCracken. She grew up in the Rossville area and attended the area schools. In 1951 she married Roy Miller. They farmed together in Ludlow Township until Roy's death in 1958.

On April 21, 1965 she married Ralph Flage at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. They also farmed together for many years in Ludlow. Edna was very active with the farming operation, helping tend to the livestock as well as raising a large garden and doing lots of canning. She was an excellent cook and baker and known for her wild game recipes. Edna was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Aid. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, crocheting, and collecting salt and pepper shakers and dishes.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Roy Miller and Ralph Flage, and a brother, Wayne McCracken. Survivors include a son, Loren (Becky) Miller of Lansing; 2 step-sons, Gary (Marilyn) Flage of San Angelo, TX, and Dean (Trudy) Flage of Sturgis, SD; 4 step-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Freda McCracken of Nevada, IA.

Honorary casketbearers are Leo and Irvin Flage, Bennie Fiet, and Norman Miller. Casketbearers are Lyle Guese, David Adam, Brian Burke, Carrol McCracken, Gary Brink, and Ron Renne.
