The couple farmed southwest of Luana on the family farm for over 60 years. The Ridley Threshers Ring was very important to Harold and Elvira. The men and women exchanged work and social events. In subsequent years he became a very talented mechanic, and he enjoyed helping friends and neighbors repair their machinery. He liked to hunt and fish, especially pheasant hunting at Britt, IA with his relatives. He served as a member of the Big Four Fair Board for many years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elvira, who died April 12, 1996; his parents; a son-in-law, John Green; brothers-in-law Arno Wilker, John W. Davis, T. Wayne Davis; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Davis.
