MRS. KENNETH (Agnes R. Olson) ELLIS

Funeral services for Agnes Ellis were held Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran church in Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated with the Rev. Curtis Webster giving a tribute. Schutte funeral service of Postville was in charge of arrangements and burial was in the Postville cemetery.

Agnes R. Ellis, daughter of Alfred John and Amelia (Peterson) Olson, was born Jan. 20, 1909 at Clermont. She died July 6 at Lutheran hospital, La Crosse, WI.

She graduated from Clermont high school and attended Upper Iowa university where she received her teaching certificate. For 23 years she taught in the rural schools of Allamakee county and then as a sixth grade teacher in the Waukon school system until her retirement in 1968. May 12, 1928, she was married to Kenneth Ellis at Charles City. They made their home on a farm at Rangeline, WI for twenty years, moving to their present home in Postville in 1948. Agnes was the organist for their church when they lived in Wisconsin. She had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran church since 1948. She was also a member of the LCW.

Surviving besides her husband Kenneth are two sons, Eugene of Clermont and Dale of Elgin; four daughters: Mrs. Harold E. (Doris) Meyer, Mrs. Jane Ruckdaschel, Mrs. Bill (Donna) Harris, Sr. and Mrs. Milo (Betty) Helgerson, all of Postville; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother Alfred L. Olson of West Union, and three sisters: Mrs. Julia Roe of Waukon, Mrs. Clarence (Irene) Thompson of Calmar and Mrs. Henry (Bessie) Hirsch of Marshfield, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Olaf and Joseph Olson, one sister Mrs. Gladys Kobriger and a grandson Larry Meyer.

Casket bearers were Ronald Roe, Curtis Roe, H. Robert Hirsch, George Kobriger, Jerry Hirsch and Mark Olson.
