PASSING OF A LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER
We are this week called upon to chronicle the death of Mrs. Eugene Kerrigan, who died at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, May 3rd, and was brought to New Albin Friday night for burial.Sarah Kelly was born in Elgin, Illinois, in 1847, and moved to Iowa with her parents in 1859. She was married to Eugene Kerrigan at St. Joseph’s church, New Albin, on January 7, 1885.
Besides her husband she leaves a son and daughter, John T. of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth of Milwaukee. Two children preceded her in death, William dying in infancy, and Mary, November 4, 1907.
Mrs. Kerrigan wasn’t concerned about worldly things. Only her immediate family knew her well enough to appreciate her true worth.
Father Hayes celebrated a Requiem High Mass Saturday morning, and her remains were laid to rest in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
“It is a wonderful thing, a mother. Other folks can love you, but only your mother understands. She works for you, looks after you, loves you, forgives you anything you may do, understands you, and then the only bad thing she ever does to you is to die and leave you.”
Mrs. J.C. Brophy, Miss Frances Brophy and Mrs. Leo Hufschmidt, all of Lansing, attended the funeral.
CARD OF THANKS
We want to thank our friends and relatives who were kind to us in our bereavement, especially Father Hayes, the Rosary Society, members of the choir, altar boys and Mrs. Emmet Twite, who had charge of the funeral.
