Harland G. Luster, 82, of Harpers Ferry, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon after a short illness. Services were Monday at St. Ann’s St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, by Father Louis Trzil. Burial in St. Joseph Paint Rock Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry. Arrangements were with Hanson Funeral Home in Waukon.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; four daughters, Laura Lacina of Brooklyn, Susan Weipert of Marquette, Sandra Williams of Monona and Anita Garin of Tiffin; two sons, Bill of Harpers Ferry and Chris of Prairie du Chien, five sisters, Mary Alice Kane of La Crosse, Wis., Myrtle Spinner of Davenport, Iowa, Madonna Roullier of Waukesha, Helen Hanesworth of Stoddard, and Charlotte Monroe of Viroqua; and four brothers, Ernie of Lansing, Iowa, Clarence of Cincinnati, Ohio, John of Prairie du Chien and Charles of Hiawatha, Iowa.

Harland Luster, 82, of Harpers Ferry died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon after a short illness.
Harland was born May 26, 1926, to John and Loella Luster in Harpers Ferry. He attended Harpers School through the 12th grade and then worked with his father building homes until going to work for the railroad. He entered the military service on Oct 26, 1944. He served in Luzon, the Philippines, and Japan up to and after the occupation. Among his honors were many awards including the Bronze Star of Valor.
Returning home he married Connie Richards on Nov. 30, 1946, and began a lifelong career in iron working. Some of the projects he worked on include the Blackhawk Bridge between Lansing and Wisconsin, the Marquette-Joliet bridge between Marquette, IA, and Prairie du Chien, as well as the Genoa Nuclear Power Generation Plant. He was a charter member of Scenic Post 722 American Legion in Harpers Ferry and a member of St.Ann/St Joseph Church in Harpers Ferry.
He is survived by his wife Connie; two sons, Bill of Harpers Ferry, IA and Chris (Cyndi) Prairie du Chien; four daughters, Laura (Robert) Lacina of Brooklyn, IA, Sue (Steve) Weipert, Marquette, IA, Sandy (Randy) Williams, Monona, IA, and Anita "Bird" Garin of Tiffin, IA; four brothers and five sisters, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Pete (Virginia) Luster, a sister in law Rita (Charles) Luster, two brother-in-laws, Don (Myrtle) Spinner and Don (Helen) Rissman and a daughter-in-law Karen (Bill) Luster.
Services were Monday at St. Ann's St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, by Father Louis Trzil. Burial in St. Joseph Paint Rock Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry. Arrangements were with Hanson Funeral Home in Waukon.~Prairie du Chien COURIER PRESS
