Paul W. Breeser, 89, of New Albin, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 2, at St. Peter's Christian Community Church, New Albin, with Rev. Dr. William Reese, Th.D. officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Memorial Cemetery. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home of Caledonia, MN was in charge of arrangements.
Paul was born December 10, 1919 at home in Union City Township, the oldest of three children to William and Alvina (Hauer) Breeser. He attended a country school in rural New Albin before going to work on the family farm alongside his father. Paul also helped out on the neighboring farms in times of need. He then worked at the Hosch Foundry in New Albin and later at the Button Factory in Lansing, as well as other odd jobs along the way.
March 10, 1960, Paul married the love of his life, Esther (Meyer) Neumann, and he then became a loving stepfather to two girls. In November of 2000, Esther preceded Paul in death. In addition to spending time with his family, Paul enjoyed gardening, playing a good hand of Euchre, and getting together with friends to discuss everyday topics. He also loved cracking and selling his walnuts, hickory nuts, and butternuts.
Survivors include one sister, Hilda Walters of La Crosse, WI; one stepdaughter, Katherine Nesheim of Waukon; three stepgrandsons, Walter (Chris) Ellefson of Waukon, and John Kottman and Jeremy Kottman, both of Monona; one stepgranddaughter, Jodi (Russell) Heins of Monona; one brother-in-law, Harold (Eunice) Meyer of Eitzen, MN; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Meyer of New Albin; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mabel Breeser; one stepdaughter, Sharon Kottman; two sons-in-law, Gary Kottman and Dennis Nesheim; and two brothers-in-law, Albert Walters and Fremont Meyer.
