Peggy Rothmeyer

Peggy Lee Rothmeyer, of Postville, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009, at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, following a brief illness. She was 79.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, April 2, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville. The Rev. Richard Gaul and Monsignor Cletus Hawes concelebrated. Burial followed in the Postville Cemetery, Postville. Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Peggy was born on February 17, 1930, in Monona, to Kenneth and Marian (Owen) Lange. She was baptized on March 17, 1940, at the Methodist Church in Monona. Peggy graduated from Luana High School in 1948.

Peggy was united in marriage to John Rothmeyer on May 14, 1949, at St. Mary Catholic Church, McGregor. They were the proud parents of two daughters. Peggy and John farmed together for many years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a fabulous cook and baker and was known for her wonderful tasting pies. Peggy also canned vegetables and meats of all kinds.

Peggy was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville, where she was active in the Rosary Society and taught CCD for many years. She also was a member of St. Patrick Rosary Society in Monona. Peggy was the Activities Director for five years at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. She will be greatly missed by her many family and friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Judy Ann Mueller; one granddaughter, Rebecca Mueller; two sister, Marjorie Bollman and Diane Ellis; and two brothers, Bennett and LeAllen.

Survivors include her husband, John Rothmeyer, Postville; one daughter, Linda (Daryl) Szabo, Postville; four grandchildren, Laura (Dave) Kirchner, Decorah, Greg (Mandy) Mueller, Decorah, Jared Szabo, Postville, Zachary Szabo, Postville; four great-grandchildren, Dominic, Danika, Paige, Ashton; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and dear friend of the family, Jim Bursell, La Crescent, Minn.
