Death of James Harkins

James Harkins was born on the old James Harkins farm in Makee township, March 18, 1860. On the death of his uncle in 1912 he became sole owner and resided there until 1914, when he sold the place to H.R. Deeney, and moved to Beltrami County, Minn., and located on a tract of land, where he continued to reside, improving and clearing it. His death occurred Nov. 8 as follows: One of his horses got into a small lake on which his land fronts, and in trying to rescue it on the ice he received a shock from the head or feet of the animal and died while being carried to his house by a neighbor.

Deceased leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Mrs. D.J. Deeney of Union Prairie Township and Mrs. Barney McCauley of Waucoma, Fayette County and several nieces and nephews. The body arrived on the noon train Monday and was met by the relatives and friends. Burial took place in the family lot in Lycurgus Cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.
