Veteran Banker Buried Monday At Lansing

Charles M. Kerndt, 90, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Zirbes, in Chicago, on Friday, May 2nd, following a week or more illness during which time his children had been called and all were there to see him. He spent the past four months in Florida with his daughter and husband and they had only recently returned to Chicago.
He was born May 21st 1867, at Lansing, a son of Moritz Kerndt and Mary Nimsgern. On August 3rd 1891 at Milwaukee, Wis., he was married to Frieda Greulich who passed away April 27th 1926. They made their home in Milwaukee for a number of years and were parents of five children, Arthur, of Fort Worth, Texas; Richard, Pewaukee, Wis.; Theodore , of Lansing, and Paula, of Chicago. Another daughter, Mrs Meta Fawcett preceded her father in death on December 1st 1932. Other immediate survivors include his sisters, Mrs Clara Gray, of Milwaukee and Miss Katherine Kerndt and one brother Moritz besides several grandchildren.
The family returned to Lansing where for almost fifty years Mr. Kerndt has been actively engaged in the Kerndt Bros. Savings Bank serving as cashier for more than thirty years. "Charlie" as he was familiarly called possessed a happy and jovial disposition with a keen insight to human nature. He was devoted to his home and church, adhered to business at all times and held in hign esteem by all who knew him. He was a member of the B.P.O. E. No. 443 Decorah and for many years past regularly visited the club where his advanced age made him a general favorite.
The funeral services were held from Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing Monday morning at nine-thirty with the Rt. Rev. Msgr Henry Scharphoff offering the Mass of Requiem. Burial was in the family lot in Gethsemane beside his loved ones gone before. Casket bearers were Herman Dannenberg, Hugo Fritz, Leo Wagner, James Ryan, Harris McKee and Leo Krieger. Among the out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. George Zirbes, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kerndt, Fort Worth, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kerndt, Pewaukee, Wis.;Mrs. Charles Grau and son Cyril, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Kerndt, Green Bay, Wis.; Mrs. Rosemary Allred, Chico, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Regan, Waterloo; the Julius Abitz family, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Plecks, Glencoe, Ill.; Mrs. E. R. Reynolds, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. George MacLahlan, Mrs. Malinda Funke and Robert Funke, Mrs. Sam Hyde and David Hyde, William F. Funke, all of La Crosse; Glen Zirbes, of Cedar Rapids; Father Manternich, Loras College, Dunbuque; Pat Mahoney and Harold Link, Waukon as well as Elks from Decorah.
