Erie Nelson Petersen

Services for E. N. Petersen were held Thursday, May 25 at 10;30 a.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville. Mr. Petersen died Monday, May 22 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, following a long illness. The Rev. Dick F. Harberts officiated.

The son of Hans C. Petersen and Caroline Schumacker Petersen, Erie Nelson was born March 18, 1894 at Sheffield, Iowa. He spent his early years on a farm and attended a rural school and later commercial schools in Iowa Falls and Mason City. He was a bookkeeper for the Mason City Lumber Company.

January 15, 1917, he was married to Irene Law. They lived on a farm near Glenville, Minnesota until 1929 when they purchased a farm near Joice, Iowa. In 1945 the couple moved to Minneapolis, where he was employed by Robecheck Schneider Manufacturing Company. In 1953 they moved to Postville where he operated a hardware store in partnership with John Kittleson until 1963 when he retired.

Mr. Petersen was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle and a sister, Mrs. Eva Rowe of Hampton, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; a daughter, Mrs. John (Lorna) Kittleson, Postville; three sons: Delbert of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Vaughn of Chico, California and William of New York City. There are 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Interment was at Hampton, Iowa in the Hampton Cemetery.
