Rites Are Held Saturday For Mrs. Ernst Paulsen

Alma Henrietta Wilhelmine Funk, daughter of John Frederick Funk and Lena Kleifoth, was born June 21, 1894, in Wagner township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, on December 15, at the age of 71 years, five months and 16 days.

She was baptized August 19, 1894, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, and confirmed April 12, 1908. On January 28, 1913, she was married to Ernst T. Paulsen, his brother being the officiating pastor. To this union were born five children: Hilda (Mrs. Eugene Horstman) of Guttenberg, Hazel (Mrs. Lorenz Pape) and Henry of Postville, Herold (sic) of Mesa, Arizona and Harvey of Elgin.

She lived all her life in the Luana and Postville area, beginning farming with her husband near Luana, moving to a farm near Postville in 1925, and in 1947 moving to Postville, at which time they joined St. Paul Lutheran Church. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1963. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church Women.

She is survived by her husband; five children; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great grandchild and a sister, Mrs. Hilma Trappe. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sisters; and infant brother; a brother, Welmar, and grandson, Lorenz E. (Buddy) Pape.

Services were held in St. Paul Lutheran Church Saturday, December 18, with burial in the Postville cemetery.
