Lawrence Jerome Gilson

Lawrence (Larry) Jerome Gilson, 94, formerly of Dorchester and Eitzen, MN, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009 at Caledonia Care and Rehab, Caledonia, MN.

He was born October 12, 1914 in Forest Mills, the son of Orrie and Mary (Amundson) Gilson. Lawrence attended Iowa schools and farmed most of his life, first helping his father on their family farm and then buying his own farm in Dorchester. In addition to farming, he had a creamery route and sold fish.

February 22, 1946, he married Irene Feil. Lawrence enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing cards and bingo, and family gatherings.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Irene of Caledonia, MN; two daughters, Marie (Robert) Devou of Maine and Barbara (David) Verhey of Wisconsin; one son, Jerome Gilson of Minnesota; five grandchildren, Kristine (Scott) Adams, Debra (Robert) Dipietrantonio, Tanya Devou, Tamara (Peter) Holmes, and Michelle (Kevin) Starck; two great-grandchildren, Christian Adams and Haley Adams; two sisters, Dorothy (Norman) Aldridge and Norma Rosell, both of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Myrtle Drahn, Carol Reeder and Delores Steiner; and two brothers, John Gilson and Dale Gilson.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 16 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eitzen, MN with Rev. Todd Krueger officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home in Caledonia, MN was in charge of arrangements.
