Death Of Mrs. Ed Roach

News was received this morning of the death of Mrs. Ed Roach of Jefferson township, who passed away at the state hospital at Independence, where she had received care for several years. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ryan, deceased, of near Frankville. Besides her husband and son Miles she is survived by several brothers and sisters. The remains will arrive at the family home today.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:00 o’clock at St. Patrick’s church. This brief mention of her demise is all that is obtainable at this time.

Death of Lifelong Resident of Allamakee

As mentioned in last week’s Democrat, the death of Mrs. Ed. Roach occurred Wednesday morning at the state hospital at Independence, where she had received care for a mental breakdown for some time past.

Deceased’s maiden name was Miss Sarah Ryan, she being the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ryan of near Frankville, where she was born May 10, 1878. She received her education in the rural schools and also attended a business college here at Waukon.

On Nov. 12, 1918, she was united in marriage at St. Patrick’s church with Ed Roach, and they settled down to home life on his farm in Jefferson township. One son, Miles, was born to this union who with his father mourn her passing. There are also five sisters and three brothers, namely Mrs. Dan Drew, Cresco; Mrs. Wm. Drew, Union Prairie township; Sr. Marian of Charles City; Misses Mary and Elizabeth Ryan Frankville; James J., Joseph and Thomas Ryan, all of this vicinity.

Mrs. Roach was a devout member of the Catholic church and an ardent ???? until her health failed. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s church Saturday morning. Rev John C. Stuart celebrating ??? ??? mass. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. The casket was carried to its last resting place by George Kluss, Henry Martin, Lloyd Reeder, R. J. Pratt, Claude Dean and Charles Irvin.

Mrs. Ed Roach Taken By Death

HEART ATTACK FATAL TO MRS. ED ROACH ON WEDNESDAY AT INDEPENDENCE HOSPITAL

Word reached Waukon last Wednesday that Mrs. Ed Roach had died at the state hospital at Independence that morning, October 10th. She had been ill for about a year, but her death was the result of a heart attack.

Mrs. Roach, whose maiden name was Sarah Ryan, was born May 10, 1879, on a farm near Frankville, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ryan, pioneers of this county. She received her education in the rural schools, and also attended the Waukon Business College. On November 11, 1918, she married Ed Roach, and they made their home on his farm in Jefferson township. One son was born to this union, Miles, who, with the husband and father are left to mourn her death.

She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Dan Drew of Cresco, Sister Mary Miriam of Charles City, Mrs. William Drew of Union Prairie township, Elizabeth and Mary of Frankville, James Ryan of Waukon, Joseph of Hanover and Thomas of Frankville.

The remains were brought to Waukon Wednesday afternoon, and taken to her home in Jefferson township. Funeral services were held Friday morning at St. Patrick’s church, conducted by Reverend J. C. Stuart. Burial was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

The casket bearers were George Klaus, Henry Martin, Lloyd Reeder, Royal Pratt, Claude Dean and Charles Irvin.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the services are Mr. and Mrs. Dan Drew, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Drew, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Drew, all of Cresco; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Drew of Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kneeskern, Mrs. Thomas Bollman, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Bollman, Mrs. Callie Letchford, Mr. and Mrs. Jean Birdsell, Mrs. Mary Fitzpatrick, Edward Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Albert Depping, Mrs. Frank Bollman, Patrick Fitzpatrick, all of Frankville, and Mrs. Jack Finnigan of Ossian.
