Allamakee Journal, 14 October 1891.

J. N. Hartbauer, who came to Norfolk some months ago and engaged in merchant tailoring, died at his home on Main street at 2:30 o’clock this morning from that dread disease, consumption. While he as been ailing for some time, he was only taken dangerously ill a few days ago, and although all that loving ministrations and medical skill could do was done to prolong his life, he gradually grew weaker and at last passed away to the hour named. His sister, Mrs. L. T. Kirch, of Chicago and Mrs. Hartbauer’s father, Henry Horstman, of Broken Bow, were summoned to his bedside, and arrived in time to be with him in his last moments. The remains were taken to Lansing, Iowa, his former home, starting on the 4:20 p.m. Union Pacific train today.

Card of Thanks

To the Editor of The News:

Kindly permit us, through the columns of your paper, to return our heart-felt thanks to those who, though comparative strangers, to us, rendered so many acts of kindness to us, and aided us so greatly through the illness and death of our beloved husband, brother and son. To all we owe a debt of gratitude that mere words can never express, and the memory of their deeds of brotherly love will ever be a bright spot in the future recollections of the days of sorrow through which we have passed.

MRS. J. N. HARTBAUER

MRS. L. T. KIRCH

HENRY HORSTMAN.
