Obituary--Mrs. Willard Conkey
Friends and acquaintances of Mrs. Willard Conkey were grieved to hear of her death Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, 1909, at 4 o'clock, when she bade adieu to home and friends and entered the portals of the skies, the eternal kingdom of everlasting bliss. She had been in poor health for several years but since October, 1908, had been failing, being a victim of dropsy. Everything possible was done for her comfort by the way of medical aid and kind and careful nursing. Her daughter, Mrs. M.T. Phipps was her most constant attendant, being with her at the time of her death.
Lucy Ann Petrey was born in Carbon County, Penn., April 10, 1830, and was therefore 79 years and 7 months of age.
She was married to Job Valentine Sept. 26, 1859, settling in Village Creek, where she has ever since been a resident. Her husband died Feb 24, 1863. Six children were born to them, all of whom are living but one.
She was again married to Willard Conkey, April 1, 1865. Although she never united with any church she had an abiding faith in her Creator and Savior at whose call she has gone to receive her bright reward, for our loss is her gain.
Mrs. Conkey leaves to mourn her death her aged husband, three daughters, Mrs. S.E. Wood of White, SD., Mrs. M.T. Phipps of Thompson Corner, and Mrs. Pete Tellier of Oakland, Cal., and two sons, Charles E. Valentine of Ohaton, Alberta, Can., and Will A. Valentine of White, SD. All were present at the funeral but Mrs. Tellier and Charles E. Valentine whom distance and sickness in their own families prevenned. Funeral services were held at the family home Friday morning at 10:30, burial taking place in the Village Creek Cemetery. Rev. Raeker officiated.
