The community was grieved at the sudden death of our pioneer resident, Willard Conkey, on Wednesday, 5th inst. He had been in almost usual health that morning and had taken his daily morning walk when he came to the house and complained of illness, but did not feel sick enough to cause any alarm. He quietly passed away at 3:40p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.T. Phipps, in Lafayette township.

Willard Conkey was born June 14, 1816, at Pelam, Hamsheir county, Mass. He came to Iowa in 1855, settling at Lansing. Mr. Conkey was one of the oldest citizens of the county, being ninety-four years old in June.
