David Dean Miller

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 17, 1978, at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, Iowa, for David Dean Miller, 24, who died on August 13, as the result of an accidental drowning in the Mississippi River. Officiating at the service was Rev. Roger Hawthorne. Pallbearers were Ray Richard, Douglas Schlein, Loren Walch, Jerry Johanningmeier, Keith Burger, Fred Smith, Richard Turner and Kenny Palmer. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

David Dean Miller was born October 1, 1953, at Postville, the son of Marvin D. and Darlene Levenhagen Miller. He attended the M-F-L High School. On January 19, 1974, he was united in marriage to Wendy Thies at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. To this union two sons were born, Damien Mikel and Terrance David. He was engaged in farming.

Surviving him are his wife, Wendy, his two sons, Damien and Terrance, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Miller, his five brothers, Steven, Paul, Thomas, and Timothy, all of Postville, Daniel of Naples, Italy, and two sisters, Christine and Susan of Postville; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harva Miller, his paternal great-grandmother, Beulah Nichols of Waterloo.

LYNXVILLE, Iowa -- The bodies of two Allamakee County men who had been missing since Sunday have been located in the Mississippi River near here and identified. The men were identified this morning as Clifford Livingood, 41, of Rossville, Iowa, and David Miller, 24, of rural Postville, Iowa. Crawford County authorities said the two men had put their motorboat in off the eastern shore of Allamakee County, Iowa, across the river from here Sunday afternoon and their boat was discovered empty, except for a dog, about 6:30 p.m. Sunday by a fisherman. Dragging operations were begun and Miller's body was recovered from the water about 7:45 p.m. yesterday; Livingood's body was recovered about 6:45 a.m. today. Crawford County Coroner Doug Rice said death was caused by accidental drowning.

He is survived by a wife Wendy (Thias) Miller and two sons, Damien Mikel and Terrance David, Postville; five brothers, Steven Alan, Paul Lee, Thomas Owen and Timothy Ivan, all of Postville; and Daniel Harvey, Naples, Italy; two sisters, Christine Ann and Susan Carol of Postville; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harva Miller, Monona; and his great grandmother. Graveside rites for David Miller were held in the Postville Cemetery.

TWO DROWN IN SUNDAY RIVER ACCIDENT
Two Allamakee county men drowned on Sunday in the Mississippi River near
Lynxville, Wis., according to the Crawford county sheriff's office.
Dead are David Dean Miller, 24, of rural Postville, and Clifford Lee
Livingood, 41, of Rossville.
Crawford County Sheriff Bill Fillbach said the men apparently were trying out
a boat and motor in the Lynxville area on Sunday August 13.
At 5:47 p.m. on Sunday Robert Hagensick of Lynxville called the Sheriff's
Department stating that he found a boat floating carrying a dog.
Authorities from Crawford, Iowa, Grant and Vernon counties as well as the fire
department of Gays Mills and Lansing, conducted a search on August 14.
The body of Miller was found on Monday at 7:45 p.m. at the northwest corner of
Deer Island. The body was found by Roger Svebakken of Spring Valley, MN., Tom
Fritz of Waukon and Jim Christensen of Waterville.
On August 15 at 6:45 a.m., Hagensick reporting finding the body of Livingood
at the south end of Old Channel.
The Crawford County Coroner ruled that the deaths were accidental drownings.
