Funeral services for Marie Meyer were held Saturday, September 27 at the Good Samaritan Center Chapel in Postville, with Greg Hamm, Family Ministry, St. Paul Lutheran Church, presiding. Special music was provided by Joann Martins, pianist. Casketbearers were members of the family. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Marie M. Meyer was born June 19, 1922 on the family farm in Henderson Prairie Township, Fayette County, four miles south of Postville. Her parents were Charles W. and Louise W. (Ohloff) Meyer. She passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville at the age of 86 years, three months, and six days.

She was baptized July 30, 1922 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville by the Reverend E. Schmidt and confirmed there April 5, 1936 by the Reverend R. B. Garten. Marie graduated from Postville High School in 1940. She was employed at Citizens State Bank in Postville from 1940 to 1996 and was Vice President of the bank when she retired.

Marie was interested in the community and served for many years as Treasurer of the Postville Cemetery Board. She enjoyed traveling after her retirement and liked to attend the activities of her family, which included two nieces, Jean and Mary, and their families. Marie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

Marie and her sister, Esther, lived in their apartment above the Farmers Store for many years, moved to Decorah for a short time and lived briefly in Cedar Rapids. They became residents of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville in May of 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Louise; an infant sister and a sister, Ellen, who also died in infancy; a brother, Willard C. Meyer and his wife, Marie; and a great niece, Laurie Binfet.

She is survived by her sister, Esther Meyer of Postville; two nieces, Jean (Wayne) Binfet of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary (Peter) Hubbard of Iowa City; four great-nieces and nephews, Marcia (Paul) Thomassen, Robert Hubbard, Neil Hubbard, and Katherine Hubbard; a great-great-niece, Calyn Thomassen; and several cousins.
