DEATH CLAIMS JUDGE TAYLOR
Three Months' Illness Is Fatal to Waukon Man

JUDGE H. E. TAYLOR
Waukon, Ia.—Special: District Judge Herbert E. Taylor, long prominent in judicial, political, and civic affairs of Northeastern Iowa, died late Saturday afternoon at the University Hospital in Iowa City where he had gone several days ago for treatment He previously had been confined to his home here for about three months.

Judge Taylor was 65 years old.

No funeral arrangements have been completed.

Judge Taylor had served as judge of the 13th Judicial District for: the past 23 years, having been elected to the bench in 1918.

Second Judge to Die
He was the second district judge in Iowa to die within a week, Judge Hugh P. Stuart of the 19th District having succumbed to a heart attack at his home in Dubuque last Sunday noon.

Judge Taylor, a lifelong Republican, was well known in Dubuque, where he had served as acting jurist on various occasions during his tenure on the bench.

Former County Attorney
He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Mylan Taylor and was born July 3, 1876 at Castalia. He received his early education at Postville and in 1898 he was graduated from the University of Iowa Law College. Two years later he completed a post-graduate course, at the state university. He was married June 21, 1905 to Ann Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Thomas of Lansing, and the couple established their home there where Mr. Taylor entered the law practice. Upon his election to, county attorney of Allamakee County in 1905, they moved to Waukon, since their home. He served as prosecutor until 1911, at which time he reentered private practice. In 1918, he was elected to the bench.

Judge Taylor was a past president of the Iowa Judicial Association.

Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Betty of New York and Ann of Cedar Falls; and two sons, Herbert of cresco and James of Waterloo.
