Miss Lena Leppert was born May 12, 1866, near Lansing, Iowa. Here she received her religious training and instruction, being confirmed in the Methodist Episcopal Church and was received on probation Sept. 25, 1881, by the Rev. George Stetter, and into full membership by the Rev. C. H. Priebe, on Feb. 20. 1887, remaining a member of the church here until moving to Berlin, N.D., in the spring of 1919, transferring her church membership soon thereafter during the pastorate of Rev. G. H. Kohler.

While at Berlin the departed made her home with her brother Gustave. About a year ago Miss Leppert began to fail in health and on March 6th was taken to the St. John’s hospital, at Fargo, N.D., where she submitted to an operation on March 23, and owing to the nature of the complications, help seemed impossible. While in the hospital she received the best of help and care that could be given. Her desire, however, was to leave this world for the great beyond, remaining conscious until her prayers were answered at 1 o’clock in the afternoon on April 9, 1930.

There remain, four brothers, who mourn the loss of their last sister. They are: John M., Christian H., and Gustave, all of Berlin, N.D., and Frederick, of all Creek, Oregon, with many other relatives and friends.

May she rest from her labors, as the poet expresses it:

“The lights are all out

In the mansion of clay;

The curtains are drawn,

For the dwellers away;

She slipped

O’er the threshold

To make her abode

In the City of Light.”

Her body arrived at lansing, Friday afternoon and was taken to the Saam Mortuary Chapel, and on Saturday to the Congregaational church at Church, Iowa, where the services were held, with the Rev. Arthur C. Prust officiating. Internment was made in the family lot on May’s Prairie.
