George Ralston Death Occurs

The death of George Butler Ralston, pioneer resident of Allamakee county, occurred Monday at his home in the northwest part of town. He had been in failing health the past nine months, due to the infirmities of age.

Mr. Ralston was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ralston, early settlers in Ludlow township, where he was born Feb. 21, 1869. This vicinity had since been his home with the exception of a few winters spent in California.

The marriage of George Ralston and Mary Catherine Douglass took place in Waukon, Dec. 14, 1892. The family moved from the farm in Ludlow to this city a number of years ago, purchasing the former M. Buggy estate property, where they had charge of a trailer court, and for twenty-three years operated a sawmill on the property.

Mrs. Ralston and their six daughters and three sons are living. They are: Mrs. Jessie Stocker, Visalio, Calif.; Mrs. Marie Tomlinson, Mrs. Doris Wedo, David Ralston, and Mrs. Florence Brandos, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Eugenna Sass, Waterville; Mrs. Ruth Johnson, Postville; John Ralston, Monroe, Oregon, and Earl of Waukon. Also an only sister, Jessie Ralston, who resides in California. There are 49 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.

The body rests at Martin's funeral home where services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, the date of his 84th birthday, at 1:30. Rev. A. H. Grossheim will officiate. William and Milo Livingood, Charles Brainard, George Gelo, Bruce Douglass and Ruben Schutte will serve as casket bearers for burial in Oakland Cemetery.
