Services Held Monday For Henry Gruenhaupt

Waukon resident Henry Gruenhaupt died Saturday, Dec. 4 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. He was 87. He was born in Helmighausen, Germany May 5, 1895, the son of Christian and Caroline Hage Gruenhaupt, and came to the United States in 1924. He and Hattie Troester were married May 14, 1930 in Davenport and they moved to Waukon in 1977. Gruenhaupt received his education in German schools and attended Iowa State University at one time. He served with the German army in the first world war. He was a cow tester for the DeKalb Seed Corn company in Grinnell and also farmed. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. His wife survives as do a son Lee of Waukon; a daughter Mrs. Alvin (Ruth) Hein, Jr. of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by a brother Ernest who lives in Germany. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Karl, Christian, William, Lena, Emma, and August. Funeral services were held at 1:30p.m. Monday, Dec 6 from St.John's Church. The Rev. Marlyn Hansing officiated and burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Staples, Earl Bechtel, Elmer Alderdyce, and Raymond, Robert, and Eldon Troester. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
