Death of Peter Stauffacher.

Peter Stauffacher, whose death we briefly mentioned in our last, was born on the 27th day of Jan., 1820 in Matt, Canton Glarus, Switzerland. He was baptised and confirmed according to the usages of the Reformed church of that country. He was married to Verona Elmer of the same place and moved to this country in the year 1846, settling at first in Sherrill's Mound near Dubuque and came to this part of the country in 1867, where he remained up to the date of his death. Eleven children were born to them, of whom five survive. His wife Verona died on the 9th day of July, 1889. He married the second time, Sara Merrill in November, 1891.

He was in good health till about a year ago, since which time he was confined to the house with liver complaint which finally resulted in his death, which occurred on the first of January. All his children were present but one. The funeral took place on the 4th inst., Rev. Hall conducting the service in the home and Rev. Kerne in German in the church on Lansing Ridge. Owing to the weather the attendance was not very large.

Note: Peter's second wife was the widow of William Rowe and ? Stevens. Possibly Merrill was her maiden name. Her obit is posted on this site as Sarah Rowe Stauffacher.
