Herman Schmieden, Life long resident of Center township, passed away at 1 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, where he had been taken some time previous for treatment. A heart ailment was given as the cause of death, and he had not been feeling well the past winter.

Deceased was the son of Herman and Caroline Schmieden, pioneers of Center township, and he was born Jan. 18, 1867, on the farm on which he spent his entire lifetime. On April 16, 1896, at the home of the bride'parents--he was married to Miss Elizabeth Dee, who with their six children, survive him as follows: Clarence and Edna (Mrs. M. B. Proestemoen), Minneapolis; Victor, at home; Mrs. Lester Ness and Mrs. Herbert Knutson, Waterville. Also surviving is one sister, Louise, Mrs. Levi Deremore,Monona; and ten grandchildren; besides a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.

Mr. Schmieden was a real farmer in every sense of the word and was known far and wide as a breeder of fine stock hogs and horses. Honest and upright in all his business dealings, he was respected and admired by friends and neighbors, to whom he was always willing to lend a helping hand. The bereaved wife and children will revere the memory of a kind, loving husband and father, and have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 10 a. m. at the home with Rev. Unseth officiating. Interment will be made in the N. E. L. Synod church cemetery near Dalby.
