Mrs. Mathilda Scharping Passes Away January 10th
(By Mrs. Urban Ashbacher)
Mathilda L., daughter of Frederick and Augusta Bublitz, was born in French Creek township September 13, 1872, and died Jan. 10, 1940, in the same neighborhood after a lingering illness. She was 67 years, 3 months and 28 days of age.

Deceased received a common school education in the old log school house in French Creek township, and on Dec. 29 1892, she was united in marriage to Albert H. Scharping at the French Creek M. E. Church, after which Lansing was her home for many years. To this union were born five children; two sons died in infancy and a daughter at the age of 8 years. She was also preceded in death by her husband several years ago.

She leaves to mourn her departure, 2 daughters, Mrs. R. J. (Emma) Weing of Charles City, Iowa, and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Ashbacher of French Creek township with whom the deceased made her home the past three years; also four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Emma Hendrickson of Minneapolis, Minn., and two brothers, Charles Bublitz of Dubuque, Iowa, and William on the old Bublitz homestead in French Creek township, and many other relatives and friends.

Energy, frugality and thrift, conbined with good judgment and economy, were among the deceased's characteristics, which enabled her to do her part in homemaking and rearing and training her family to a measure of success most creditable; she was a life long member of the Calvary Evangelical church at Lansing, being faithful in the duties which fell to her lot. Mrs. Scharping was an unassuming, home loving woman with unbounded hospitality. Her helpful dispositon endeared her to all who learned to know her, and the news of her departure brought expressions of regret from a large circle of friends, She passed out of this life into a better home, but she will be sadly missed.

Call not back the dear departed,

Anchored safe where storms are o'er
On the borderland we left her,

Soon to meet and part no more.
When we leave this world of changes,

When we leave this world of care;
We shall find our missing loved one,

In our Father's mansion fair.

May her soul rest in peace.
funeral services were held in the Calvary Evangelial church at Lansing Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. conducted by the pastor, Rev. De Witt Stauffer, assisted by Rev. Bernard Kemper, pastor of the French Creek M. E. church, and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
