Emil J. Steiber Passes Away

Emil J. Steiber, life long resident of Lafayette township, passed away last Thursday morning at the Lutheran hospital, La Crosse, following a surgical operation to which he submitted on Tuesday. His nieces, Mmes. Gladys Jenkins and Ferne Wendel, were at his bed side constantly.

Deceased was born Nov. 6th, 1881 on a farm in Lafayette township, a son of the late Henry and Magdalena Steiber, and this place has ever since been his home. He was educated in the rural school of the community and followed the occupation of farming all his life. He made his home with brother Will for many years and of late had been living with the Mrs. Ralph Jenkins ( Gladys Steiber) family now on the same farm. He leaves to mourn his passing two brothers, Fred and Will Steiber of Lansing, a sister, Mrs. Mabel Fuller of Portland, Oregon, the Ralph Jenkins family, whom he dearly loved, and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents, 3 brothers and one sister preceded him in death. The deceased was a good neighbor and kind friend, never refusing to lend a helping hand where needed.

He was a life long member of the Calvary Evangelical Church, Lansing, from where the funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. R. A. Dennert officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery and casket bearers were Ray and Leslie Steiber, Emmet Gaunitz, Clem Peters, Alvin Schultz and Harold Englehorn. Many friends from Waukon and Decorah were present for the funeral.
