Dora Irene Adam

Dora I. Adam, 86, of Waukon, died Sat., July 14, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.
Funeral services were held Tues., July 17, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home assisted the family in arrangements.

Dora Irene Adam was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Kramer, ND. Her parents were Albert James and Elizabeth (Kuebler) Bowden. She attended Jamestown High School in North Dakota before moving to Northeast Iowa in the early 1930s, where she worked as a caregiver and housekeeper.

On June 18, 1936, Dora married Elmer W. Adam at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church parsonage. She and Elmer farmed together in Ludlow Township for many years. In 1984, Dora moved to Postville where she lived for several years. She later lived with relatives in Salem, OR. For the past six years, she has lived at the Living Center in Waukon.

Dora was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Aid. She actively worked on the farm, did a lot of quilting and sewing, liked to garden, and was a good cook and baker. She also enjoyed playing cards and dancing. Her life was very family-oriented and she loved spending special times with her grandchildren, and especially playing cards with her great-grandchildren.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; a son, Elmer Jr.; one brother, Harry Bowden; and a son-in-law, Cecil Rosburg.

Survivors include one son, Marvin (Janice) Adam of Postville; two daughters, Darlene Rosburg of Arlington and Marilyn (James) Miller of Volga; eight grandchildren, Danny (Elaine) Rosburg, Darrell (Donna) Rosburg, Craig (Melissa) Adam, Clark (Stacy) Adam, Kevin (Stacy) Adam, Brenda Patterson, Susan Koehler, and Cassandra Miller; 11 great-grandchildren, David, Michael, and Ryan Rosburg, Beth, Benita, and Breina Patterson, Scott and Mitch Rosburg, Adrian, Jenna, and Kyle Adam; three brothers, Walter and Bill (Violet) Bowden, both of Dallas, OR, and Marvin Bowden of Medford, OR; and three sisters, Bertha Johnson of Salem, OR, Lydia Schneider of Devils Lake, ND, and Leona "Blondie" Smith of Dallas, OR; and several nieces and nephews.
