Adolph "Bud" Rath

Adolph "Bud" Rath, 83, a long-time resident of Charles City who enjoyed 35 summers on the Mississippi River in Lansing, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 in Tyler, TX. Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, February 29 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, with the Rev. David Werges officiating. Lunch will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Adolph was born November 12, 1924 in Butler County to Carl and Lydia Gabelmann Rath. He retired as a sheet metal press operator from Oliver-White Tractor Factory in Charles City after 34 years of service. He loved his family and was an avid fisherman, coon hunter and outdoorsman, and he enjoyed watching college and professional football, basketball and baseball games.

Survivors include his daughters, Carolyn Schwickerath and Connie Gibbs, and his son-in-law, Terry Gibbs, all of Tyler, TX; his grandchildren, Tasha Byrd, Tara Farley, Tanya Watkins, Ryan Gibbs, Tom Ross, Shane Swick, Tony Gibbs, Amanda Ramoz and Bud Rath; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hannah Wood and Leah Wilson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Lou Springer; and a son, David Allen Rath.
