Funeral services are being held today (Wednesday), December 24, in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, for Mrs. Carrie Martin who died at noon Sunday, December 21 at her home in Postville. She had been in failing health for some time. the Rev. Dick Harberts will officiate. Born on a farm near Ankeny on March 28, 1891, Carrie Marie was the oldest daughter of Edward and Barbara Andrews Frederick. She was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines in 1891. Carrie lived on the farm until wshe was 12 when her father purchased a farm near Elkhart. She was a memeber of the White Oak Church at Elkhart and served as church organist. She received her education in the Ankeny and Elkhart schools. Following her marriage to Emmett Martin on February 15, 1911, the couple moved to Hampton. She was a emeber of the Hampton Methodist Church for 27 years. In 1948, with her son Fred and wife Evelyn, she moved to Postville and united with the Community Presbyterian Church on October 3, 1948. She was a charter member and actively involved in the Women's Association and preparing the Communion elements. She was a charter member of the V.F.W. at Hampton and a 25 year member in Postville. She did volunteer mending for the Hospital, was a member of the Postville Senior Citizens and the Hampton Cemetery Association. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and a sister Martha, in infancy; two brothers Harold and William Frederick. Survivors include her eight children: Fred of Postville; Mrs. Oscar (Louise) Scherer of Goldendale, WAshington ; Mrs. Frederick (Vera) Schreiber of Sheffield; Mrs. Derold (Viva) Lutz, Oklahoma City, Oklahooma; Mrs. Truman (Alta Marie) Shelton, Mountain View, California; Mrs. Jack (Adeline) Arnold of Sunnyvale, CAlifornia; Robert of Sausalito, California and John of Coral Springs, Florida. There are also two brothers: Morgan Frederick of Anaheim, California and Cecil Frederick of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sisters: Mrs. C.C. (Edna) Harris of Des Moines; Mrs. Leon (Henrietta) Sherman of Elkhart and Mrs. Darrell (Bertha) Maxon of Spirit Lake. there are 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Interment will be in the Postville cemetery.
