HENRY VAN GORDER
Henry Van Gorder, son of Levi and Susan Van Gorder, was born July 17, 1872 at Hardin, Iowa, and passed away at the Good Samaritan Center at Cresco, April 4, 1965 at the age of 93 years, nine months and 18 days.
He was educated in the rural schools of this community and grew to manhood in this county. He was a lifelong resident of this community. On March 18, 1902 he was united in marriage to Jennie Roffman by the late Rev. Van Nice, at Waukon. Mrs. Van Gorder preceded him in death April 10, 1960. To this union were born three children, all of whom survive: Verla, Mrs. Earl Russell of La Motte, Elmer, of Oelwein; and Ray, living on the home place; also, nine granchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Sanke, of Clermont.
Henry farmed in this community and for many years was a road maintenance employee for both Allamakee county and the State of Iowa.
Services were held Wednesday, April 7, at 1:30 from the Schutte Funeral Home at Postville, with Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiating. Burial was in the Minert Cemetery in Post township.
