Curtis Hansmeier, 56, of Waukon, died Fri., Nov. 15, 2002, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah. Funeral services were held Mon., Nov. 18 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Rev. Richard N. Eick and Rev. Corey Larson officiating. Burial with military graveside rites was in Oakland Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Curtis Dale Hansmeier was born March 10, 1946, in Waukon, the son of Roger W. and Nona (Kelly) Hansmeier. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ, attended Jefferson #3 rural elementary school, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1964. He was a Sergeant in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1970, serving as a firefighter. Most of his tour of duty was in Germany and England. On July 25, 1970, he married Connie Bowman at Kings Lynn, England. They returned to the US, where Curt worked for John Deere Implement in Waukon for a time before moving to Clarion, where he and Connie operated a bowling alley from 1972 until 1979. They returned to Waukon, where he worked at numerous occupations, including Torkelson Motors, farming, operating a small engine repair shop, and for Bituma Corp. in Marquette. For the past three years, he has been trucking cross-country for Dan Hansmeier. He also drove school bus for many years in both Clarion and Waukon. Curt was a member of the Waukon Kiwanis and both the Waukon and Lansing Bowling Associations. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, horseback riding, and operating any kind of machinery. He was an accomplished bowler in the area traveling league and an avid sports fan, helping to broadcast local football games for KNEI Radio for several years. Curt was a loyal and good husband and friend, and very close to his pet dogs. Survivors include his wife, Connie; his mother, Nona Hansmeier; and a sister, Cathy (Rick) Larson, all of Waukon; a nephew, Rev. Corey Larson of Eldora, Iowa; a niece, Kelly (Matt) Null of Sterling, Ill.; and a special fishing buddy, Zach Kolsrud of Waukon. He is preceded in death by his father, Roger. Casket bearers were Don Angel, Walt Wedo, Kevin Hoisington, Bob Rotach, Wayne Topel, and Wayne Martin.
