Martin Vickery Death Notice

June 16, 1954 -- Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the home and 2:00 p.m. from the Forest Mills E.U.B. Church for Martin Vickery, 72, who passed away at his farm home June 11.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the home and 2:00 p.m. from the Forest Mills E. U. B. Church for Martin Vickery, 72, who passed away at his farm home in Post township June 11. Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiated. Burial was made in the Minert cemetery in Post township.

Martin Vickery, son of David and Ophelia Vickery, was born September 28, 1881 in Franklin township, Postville, and passed away at his farm home in Post township June 11 at the age of 72 years. He received his early education at the Evergreen School in Post township. In his youth he worked with a construction company building bridges in this county.

On November 29, 1906 he was united in marriage to Millie Brainard of Postville. To this union was born four children, three of whom died in infancy. A son, Roy Vickery, died in a Communist Prisoner of War Camp in Korea, February 20, 1951. He also had two adopted sons, James and Donald Vickery, Donald, preceded his father in death June 5, 1954. James resides at Los Angeles, California.

He also leaves to mourn his passing one brother, Willard Vickery of Waukon and one sister, Mrs. Edna Drier of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. He also had four grandchildren.

After his marriage he started farming and farmed in this community until his death.
